Dominion's Flea Defense

Nothing disrupts a quiet afternoon more than the sudden, irritating itch of a flea bite.

These tiny, blood-sucking pests are not only annoying but can also carry serious diseases.

Fleas are small, wingless insects that survive by feeding on the blood of animals or humans. Their bites can cause intense discomfort, itchiness, and irritation. However, the real danger lies in their ability to transmit diseases.

Fleas are known to carry and spread pathogens that can lead to flea-borne illnesses, including plague, murine typhus, and cat scratch disease (CSD).

In addition to diseases, fleas can also carry parasites like tapeworms. If a person or pet accidentally ingests an infected flea, they can become infected with tapeworms. Young children, who are more likely to play on the floor or in carpeted areas, are particularly at risk. Most infected individuals do not show symptoms, and they may be unaware that they are carrying tapeworms.

Fleas primarily transmit pathogens through two means: by feeding on a host or through the contamination of flea feces (also known as "flea dirt"). When a flea feeds, it can introduce germs into the host's bloodstream, or if the feces are scratched into an open wound, the germs may enter the body.

Fleas have a keen ability to locate their hosts. While they prefer to feed on animals, they will bite humans when animals are unavailable. Adult fleas detect their hosts through body heat, vibrations caused by movement, and even the host’s breathing. Their agility and sensitivity allow them to quickly latch onto any available host.

While we want to eliminate fleas in your yard, we also don't want to treat your yard "in mass" as that could potentially harm beneficial insects such as: bees, butterflies and fireflies

Our exterior flea treatments consist of treating all wood lines/transition areas of your property to prevent them from journeying into your yard.

We also highly recommend speaking with your pet's veterinarian to discuss topical or oral treatment options for flea prevention.

While taking preventative measures is the most effective approach, we also offer interior treatment solutions if you're currently dealing with a flea infestation in your home.
