Dominion's American Cockroach Defense

Periplaneta americana

If giant roaches are racing across your kitchen like they own the place — congratulations, you've met the American cockroach.

American cockroaches are the largest common roach species found in U.S. homes and businesses — measuring up to 2 inches long.

They are reddish-brown with a distinctive yellowish figure-eight marking behind their head — think of it as their "shield," just like Captain America’s, but this one isn’t out to protect you

Often referred to as "palmetto bugs" or "water bugs" in the South, these pests are known for their speed, size, and unwanted appearances in bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and even commercial spaces.

American Cockroaches can often be confused with Smokybrown Cockroaches. While both are large and winged, American cockroaches are lighter in color, have a visible tan band behind the head, and are more commonly found indoors — especially in basements, kitchens, and bathrooms.

Smokybrowns, by contrast, are darker, glossier, and typically live outdoors in humid environments like attics, mulch, or gutters.

They’re both especially active at night and often scatter when lights are turned on — causing instant panic and plenty of disgust.

Spotting even one of these roaches indoors is usually a sign there are more nearby.

There's never "just one."

American cockroaches are more than just unsettling.

They can spread bacteria, contaminate food, and worsen respiratory conditions through allergens in their droppings and shed skins.

Their access to sewers and trash also makes them prime carriers of pathogens.

Don’t let American cockroaches take over your home like it’s their turf. Call us today and reclaim your space from these oversized invaders.
